Johnoy Danao

His voice is the soft patter of rain as you sip a cup of coffee. It’s reminiscent of a cool summer wind when the heat seems unbearable. It’s what you would want to hear playing on the radio as you spend a lazy, quite Sunday afternoon-- alone or with someone you are wildly in love with. This is the voice of Johnoy Danao.

Though debuting as a solo artist, Johnoy, from the year 2000 to 2004 was front man to the band Bridge. When Bridge members decided to part ways, he continued playing gigs on his own— sometimes playing originals and sometimes playing cover songs. Since 2007, he has paired up with Peryodiko guitarist Kakoy Legaspi; collaborating in making extraordinary renditions of songs by artists like Dave Matthews Band, U2, Jackson Browne and Coldplay.

But throughout the various reincarnations of his career as a musician, one thing has remained the same: his signature voice. With many aspiring to be vocalists, none can truly compare with how enthralling Johnoy’s voice could be with its throaty sexiness that seems to conjure pillowtalks and whispered conversations even while conveying passion and intensity. This, combined with his song writing prowess and his originality and creativity fueled by powerhouse collaborations, has produced an album that truly redefines easy-listening.

Ten years into being devoted to his passion for music, Johnoy finally conceived his first solo album Dapithapon, which was released independently. He has literally been going places ever since, being hands-on in selling it, personally handing it out to whoever is interested in the all-original labor of love and work of art.

Shortly after its release in December 2010, the eventful guesting at DJ Mo Twister’s Good Times with Mo radio show took place, which gained Johnoy a new following. He swept away the radio show’s thousands of morning listeners with his now-famous cover of “Fix You”, and has since been dubbed as the “Philippines “best-kept secret”, eventually leading to the creation of Good Times: Acoustic podcast. With his unadulterated singing voice and DJ Mo’s humor and wit, it became the top downloaded podcast in iTunes.

Admirably, Johnoy never fails to retrace his roots. He still plays in local bars all over Metro Manila like he used to way back when. The demand exceedingly grew as he is now also being invited to play in the provinces, and even outside the country.

He released three singles off his album: "Ulan", "Ikaw at ako" and "Pagbigyan", all with music videos which can be seen on his youtube channel.
